HERMA’S READERS

ABOUT US

Herma's Readers is a nonprofit organization developed by the family of Frank Beamer, football coach at Virginia Tech, to honor his mother, Herma, who was a teacher for over 30 years. The purpose of the organization is to promote, encourage and support reading for students in kindergarten through third grade throughout elementary schools in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Herma's Readers are current and former Virginia Tech athletes, coaches, and dignitaries who are available to visit schools throughout the state to promote reading by reading to students in kindergarten through third grade.

Herma’s Readers has collected and distributed over 200,000 new and used books. In addition through its relationship with First Book, Herma’s Readers has provided over $150,000 of grants for purchase of new books for children across the commonwealth.
